Our Championship Winners from May

Boys Championship - Chorley GC, 25th May

Following on from his triumph last year, George Whitehead successfully defended his title with a stunning second round of 67 at Chorley. George narrowly edged our Ben Caddock and Tom Prescott in a hotly contested event.

Womens Championship - St Annes Old Links 25th-27th May

A highly competitive championship this year saw some excellent scoring in very difficult conditions for the 36 hole first day qualifying rounds, with a special mention going to Lauren green for a 72 in the second round. The knockout was dominated by our womens squad players and there were some incredible match ups from the quarter finals onwards. Fresh from her victory in the Under 16 Irish Girls Strokeplay Championship, Daisy Lee came out on top, with a narrow victory over defending champion, Catherine Roberts, in the final, on a fierce final day which had seen our main scoreboard blown over, overnight! Well done Daisy!

Mens Championship - Preston GC, 30th May to 1st June

After sandwiching in a mens collinge event on the Wednesday it came the turn of the mens championship at Preston. Again, blustery conditions challenged the players and the halfway point saw two of our mens squad players, Will Sandoz and Greg Holmes, tied at the top of the leaderboard on 3 under par. The final day saw the players have to brave significant winds, and a special mentoion goes to Noah Cambridge who managed a very impressive 67 in round three to see him at the top of the leaderboard with one round to go.

The final round saw many twists and turns and after 72 holes Noah Cambridge and Will Sandoz could not be separated. A three hole playoff over the 1st, 17th and 18th holes ensued and with the players tied on the last green Will holed a magnificent putt from the front of the green to take the title. Well done Will, and commiseration Noah for such a valiant effort.

Within the championship, one additional competition is the county mens team champion trophy, where the top three players from each club add their scores together ovetr the first two rounds. Ashton-under-Lyne won by an incredible eleven shots, so well done to them!

Womens Scratch Inter Club Team Trophy - Ormskirk GC, Sunday 1st June

Always an exhibition of great golf, our clubs enter a team of their four best available women, who play as a team for the scratch Inter Club Trophy. The standard is always very high and this year was no exception!

With an impressive team, that won the trophy last year, West Lancashire were always going to be a difficult team to beat, and this proved the case with some exceptional scores from their players, all of which are involved in our women's squad. Well done to Lauren Green, Melissa Ball, Ellie Curd and Zara Holmes, who scored a phenomenal 3 over par team score over a challenging course in very windy conditions, pictured here receiving the trophy from our Vice President, John Cockerill. Well done West Lancashire!
