The week started well against Cumbria on Monday morning. Whilst the opposition put up a spirited fight, three big wins and a fantastic eagle on the last from Mia to win her match, gave us a 4-1 victory to start things off.
Monday afternoon was always going to be the toughest match of the week, against a strong Northumberland side containg two very talented singles players, both internationals. Good wins from Catherine Roberts and Lauren Green in the foursomes, and Louisa Brunt, who was exceptional all week for us, in the singles, left us feeling like we may just steal the match, but a fighting performance from them in the second foursomes game, narrowly edging out Daisy Lee and Mia Clarke 2&1 having thrown a few birdies at us on the back nine, meant we narrowly lost this crucial game 3-2.
The team showed great character to put that defeat behind us, and we dominated the matches on Tuesday, defeating both Durham and Cheshire 4-1, leaving us with the most points won, although the defeat against Northumberland meant that on the final day we had to beat the old enemy, Yorkshire, and Cheshire needed to defeat Northumberland for us to take the title again.
Yorkshire had drafted in Emma Brown (nee Duggleby), ex Curtis Cup player, specially for our match. She was paired against Daisy Lee, our newly crowned county champion, and we are delighted to report Daisy chipped in for a dramatic eagle on the last to win the hole and halve her match. A fantastic performance from Daisy!
The rest of the team performed strongly, and Louisa Brunt, who was superb all week, provided another solid point in her singles game. With 5 wins from 5, Louisa's performance could not have been better!
We triumphed 3.5-1.5 against those from over the Pennines, which gave us a very positive finish to the week, especially on their home turf, however Northumberland were superb against Cheshire and took the title, for the first time in 40 years.
There were lost of positives for us to take from the week, especially when you consider in the last two county match weeks, we are 9-1 in wins, with the one being by a very narrow margin. We now re-set and go again next year, with the team very determined to win back the trophy at Eaglescliffe GC in Durham, on 8-10 June 2026.
