Our seminar is free to attend for clubs in the county and we would encourage members of Greens Committees, Head Greenkeepers, Club Chairs and Club Managers to attend in the first instance.
We are delighted to have Paul Woodham and Alistair Beggs presenting from the R&A agronomy and sustainability department, and Owen James, sustainability manager for England Golf. Topics we will be covering will include:
1) Process outline – Guidance on the steps clubs need to take to reduce their reliance on mains water supply in the future, how to look at the process, and a suggested structure on the order clubs need to carry out projects.
2) Drainage solutions and ways to implement, alongside ensuring they fit in with your long term plan – drainage is a subject most clubs in the county are aware is an issue, so we plan to suggest some structure to planning a solution, alongside an overview of what sort of solutions are available.
3) Water harvesting – why this is important to think about, how clubs can deliver it, what it looks like, when it needs to be delivered by (including a guide on when clubs need to be planning for), where they can locate the solution on the property, and information on how clubs establish how much capacity they need to have, along with extraction licence details.
4) Contacts/people to include – Suggestions on architects for irrigation/drainage, companies such as TEP etc. and how they may fit into your process, along with the potential benefits they can deliver (helping with water extraction licence negotiations with utility companies etc)
5) Financial help – Possible grants available and ways clubs can apply for grants or financial assistance
6) Club sustainability policy – construction of a policy, creating a starting template, which can then be bespoked and adopted.
