John Wild, Past President of both the EGU and Lancashire Union of Golf Clubs, passed away last week at home at the age of 84.

A staunch supporter of golf he served on both EGU and LUGC Championship Committees for several years.

He was well known as a hugely entertaining after dinner speaker always donating any fee to charity.

He is probably most famously remembered for his tongue in cheek suggestion that the R&A seriously consider holding the Open Championship at Wigan when it was only a 9 hole course.
